A Look at the Gin Rummy Card Game
Among the many varieties of Rummy it is the one known as Gin Rummy that is viewed as the easiest to play and to learn. It is quick and simple, but it also allows a player to put some strategy and skill to work too.
The goal of all Rummy games, including Gin Rummy, is to be the player who successfully disposes of all of the cards in their hand before anyone else. This is done via a few methods:
- Going Gin – the player who disposes of all of their cards at a single time, without any deadwood;
- Knocking – the player who has less than ten points in deadwood, and is the first to layer their cards on the table; and
- Undercutting – the player who has even less deadwood than a player who just knocked.
What is deadwood? This is the cards remaining in the player’s hand when they have melded and discarded the rest. Each game has a way of attaching points or value to deadwood, and these increase the total score.
